This photo of the Humoresks was probably taken in 1922 in
Blackpool. In fact only six of the seven pictured here were Humoresks.
According to Ted Oakley, the unknown gentleman sitting in the middle was a
dignitary from the local town council. The others
were, from left to right, Olly Oakley, Nora Blakemore (soubrette), Laura
Lonsdale (soprano), Winifred Oakley and Bret Hayden (comedian), with Con
Morris (tenor) at the back. For accuracy’s sake it has to be said that
Ted Oakley is not totally sure whether he’s got Nora Blakemore and Laura
Lonsdale the right way round. However, he suspects he has! The missing,
i.e. seventh humoresk was the piano accompanist Julia Larkins. |
