Peter Bettis very kindly sent us an email with these photgraphs..

"I have had a banjo (photos attached) for many years but never learned to play. It belonged to my late grandmother who also never learned to play. Before that it was owned by her brother who wanted to take a musical instrument with him to France in the First World War. The banjo was too large so he swapped it for my grandmother's violin, much easier to transport in an army kit bag."
