Dan Levy reacts to ‘Schitt’s Creek’ meme involving Prince George and Princess Charlotte

There was no shortage of memorable moments from Queen Elizabeth II’s Platinum Jubilee weekend, especially from the royal children. Starting with Trooping the Color, Prince George, Prince Charlotte and Prince Louis stole the show with hilarious reactions.

As a writer and actor Rohita Kadambi pointed out in a viral meme, such a reaction from George and Charlotte as they watched the annual military parade was reminiscent of another pair of siblings: David and Alexis Rose of Schitt’s Creek. “They are the ones” Kadambi wrote in a tweet, featuring a side-by-side photo of the pairs of siblings looking equally puzzled. After being posted on June 3, the tweet amassed over 140,000 likes and nearly 9,000 retweets. Schitt’s Creek star and creator Dan Levy even endorsed the likeness, liking and quoting the tweet with “Lol” on June 5.

For Kadambi, the viral moment was actually over a year in the making. As she tells Bustle, she originally tweeted the joke during Meghan Markle and Prince Harry’s interview with Oprah in the spring of 2021. “Prince George and Princess Charlotte after the monarchy is abolished,” she captioned a photo of David and Alexis – only then did she not have the perfect photo comparison of the young royals to go with her. “After seeing the image of the Cambridge children on the balcony of Buckingham Palace at the Platinum Jubilee, I thought it would be a great opportunity to do the joke again with a side-by-side photo,” she explains.

Once the moment came, Kadambi – who supports the total abolition of the monarchy – shared his now Levy-approved meme. “I used David and Alexis to emphasize that they are lovely people who have grown beyond the people they were when wealth and status ruled their lives,” she says. “I hope the Cambridges have the opportunity to grow to be as charismatic, fun and ultimately grounded as David and Alexis Rose.”

For the Schitt’s Creek star, this is not the first time he has been linked to the royal family. For starters, her Twitter cover photo is a snap of Queen Elizabeth II seemingly pulling a hilariously funny face. Incidentally, he also befriended two actors who recently played Princess Diana: at spencer Kristen Stewart and That of the Crown Emma Corrin, who told W Magazine last year that Levy gave him some helpful words of wisdom over dinner. “It’s a pearl. He’s the wisest, kindest, funniest person, and I didn’t want it to end,” she said. “I feel like we could have talked forever. It was really nice.
